Propaganda of WWI

4:42 PM

As a class, we all ventured to the Imperial War Museum to look at an amazing World War I gallery on the first floor of the museum. As I was walking through I noticed the many and different propaganda posters that would be used to convince soldiers to enlist in the army and also would be used to include and motivate the women that were at home during the war.

I enjoyed seeing these vintage posters. They each have a clear and effective call to action, calling to enlist and motivate people. The different propaganda portrayed the war in a less dangerous and serious manner. The various colors used are eye catching and are not too harsh of a color. They use red, white, and blue, the colors of the flag, to show a sense of patriotism for England, further suggesting that enlisting the the war is a duty you owe to you country. The typography is strong and striking and the bold all caps demands attention and gives the posters a sense of urgency. A combination of serif and sans serif fonts are used for contrast. The combination of text and images clearly illustrates the message of war and successfully got soldiers to enlist in the army.
