The Wimbledon Look

3:40 PM

Last weekend, Amanda and I ventured into the world of Wimbledon. We got to the queue at 6AM and queued for maybe 7 hours. We didn't know if we would even make it into the courts and gambled it all just to see some tennis.

Thankfully, we did make it in! After a long wait, we finally walked through the long road to Wimbledon and acquired a ticket in. Wimbledon is one of the biggest, if not biggest, tennis tournaments around so naturally they would spare no expense in their branding. Above is a hedge shaped to spell out the word wimbledon and also the ticket to enter the courts. The ticket has an illustrated image of the courts and uses a sans serif font for the main copy.

The Wimbledon logo was placed all throughout the courts and the different marketing collateral. The colors are iconic. Green, purple, and white are chosen because they are reminiscent of the green of the court and tennis balls and the purple to contrast the green and the white of the lines of the court.

Again, more Wimbledon advertising.

It was incredible to be at center court after watching the tournament on television for so many years. Something that struck me typographically was the last photo of the quote by Rudyard Kipling. The quote is posted on a banner of leaves with water falling in front of the quote. It is meant to inspire and captivate an audience and I think it accomplishes that.

Finally, some artistic strawberries and cream, which was weird but good.
